The Dutch company Fireisolator has proposed a set of strategies and equipment for dealing with electric vehicle fires. Through research, the company concluded that there is typically no single solution to extinguish or control electric vehicle fires. Due to the effective isolation of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles, several different methods are required to extinguish and control these fires.
The company has conducted professional testing on various extinguishing methods for electric vehicle fires and introduced the concept of the Fire Extinguishing Isolator
The disposal
1, Covering with a Fire Blanket:
Use a high-temperature (1600°C) fire blanket to cover the burning vehicle, isolating it from external air. If there are adjacent vehicles that are not on fire, they should also be covered for protection.
2, Apply aerosol inside the fire blanket to block part of the chain reaction and reduce temperature.
3, Using Water Mist Sprinklers: Use water mist sprinklers to spray water inside the fire blanket.
4, Submerging the Burning Vehicle: Place the burning vehicle into a water tank for immersion.
Fire Isolation Blanket - FI-BL0906
The peak temperature of an electric vehicle fire can exceed 1500°C, while the temperature of a conventional internal combustion engine vehicle is around 800°C. After covering a burning electric vehicle with a fire isolation blanket, the temperature of the fire can be reduced to approximately 600-800°C.
The fire isolation blanket will directly help control the flames, lower the temperature, and reduce smoke and toxic gases. This blanket is rated for high temperatures up to 1600°C and features colored rings for easy coverage on vehicles. It is available in sizes of 2x2 meters and 3x3 meters.
Water Mist Spray Gun - FI-WMLANCE
The Water Mist Spray Gun is made of high-quality stainless steel, and the top shaft is coated with PE to prevent electric shock. When connected to a water supply system, the spray gun generates fine water mist within a container or confined space. The shaft length is adjustable, ranging from 500mm to a maximum of 1350mm.
Aerosol Device - FI-AUCA2
The aerosol device is a lightweight, handheld equipment that uses specialized aerosol technology (containing potassium nitrate) to suppress fires. This device releases tiny solid particles suspended in gas, which disrupt the chemical chain reactions of the fire, interrupting the combustion process.
Although the aerosol device does not deplete oxygen levels, the gas released reduces the oxygen concentration in the fire area, further suppressing the flames.
Thermal Imager - FI-BCAM
This device is used for monitoring temperatures during automotive fires. It can monitor temperatures ranging from -20°C to 1000°C.
